 Chennai Super Kings is an IPL Team with its base in Chennai and has M.A. Chidambaram stadium or Chepauk as its home ground( also known as their den). It is founded in 2008 and it is captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by Stephen Fleming. The team is owned by India Cements.
Chennai Super Kings is the most successful team in the Indian Premier League team till 2012. The team has won the IPL title twice in succession and reached the play-offs every season. They were also the first Indian team to have won the Champions League Twenty20. The leading run-scorer for them is Suresh Raina, while the leading wicket taker is R.Ashwin. As of may 2012 the Brand value of Chennai Super Kings is estimated at $ 75.13 million, making them the most valuable franchise.
In 2008, The first IPL season, CSK had a rocking start to their campaign with a win in their first four games. they finished the league stage in the third place with contributions from hayden, dhoni, raina, albie and hussey. they knocked out Kings XI in the same finals and entered in to the finals.In the finals they played against Rajasthan Royals led by Shane Warne and lost the match by 3 wickets in the lats ball.


In 2009, The season happened in south africa due to political reasons and CSK was then a strong with buying Andrew Flintoff in the year auctions. They finished the league stage with 17 points and weer placed second but they were beaten by Kumble led RCB in the semi finals.

In 2010, Chennai became a name to reckon in IPL. They had a roller coaster league stage but were ensured a place in semi finals, thanks to brilliant knock form M.Vijay and economical bowling from R.Ashwin, both are local lads. they outplayed DC in semis and marched against mumbai in mumbai. In the finals a brilliant captaincy from Dhoni earned them their maiden IPL title and this was the first time an indian captain took the cup in his hands.
 They went on with their form to the champions league in south Africa. They topped in the league stages and beat RCB in semi finals to meet Warriors in finals. In finals they beat Warriors by 8 wickets and this made them the first indian team to lift the champions trophy.
The year 2010 belonged to CSK and the local lads Vijay and Ashwin and also badhri were the main reason beyond the successful 2010.


The defending champions retained dhoni, raina, vijay and albie for the fourth season auctions and bought almost the same team from the auctions except missing out muralidharan. They finished second in the league phase with a dubious record of not losing a single match in their home ground. In the play offs they came from behind to beat RCB by 6 wickets. In the finals again they played against RCB and this time they outplayed them in every aspects of the game and were easily crowned the champions.
They had a disastrous champions league season and they didn't even qualify for the knock out phase.


In 2012, they started their campaign against mumbai with a heavy loss followed by a roller coaster ride. however the finished playing all their league much before the other teams did and so they were made to wait for the results of others matches to qualify for the play offs. Luckily they had all the results in their favour and they did qualify for the play offs.
They met MI in the Eliminator and beat them by 38 runs and entered the Qualifier against DD. In the qualifier match played in front of their home crowd they crushed DD by 86 runs and entered semi finals only to lose the match to KKR, who won their maiden IPL title.



* Vijay is the only indian player to have scored two centuries in a IPL and his century from 51 balls is the fastest fifty by an indian in IPL.
* Vijay was the leading run sorer in champions league 2010 and won the golden bat for the feat.
* Ashwin took the maximum wickets in the champions league 2010 and won the golden ball for his feat.
* Raina is the only player to have scored more than 400 runs in ever season of the IPL.
* jadeja bought by CSK for 2 million dollars is the most costliest player in IPL.
* mike Hussey scored the second century of the IPL.
* balaji took the first hat trick of the IPL.
* Hayden got the orange cap for the season 2009.
* Raina is the 1st player to score more then 2000 runs in IPL .
* Ashwin is the most economical bowler of season 2010.
* raina is the best fielder for the season 2010.
